Monaco, a tiny principality on the French Riviera, is known for its luxurious lifestyle, high-end shopping, and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. While many visitors spend several days exploring the city, it’s possible to see the highlights of Monaco in just one day – in fact, that’s exactly what I did! During my 10-day trip to Spain and France, I decided last-minute to squeeze in a quick day trip to the world’s second tiniest country. And I’m so glad I did. Here’s the skinny:
Start the day with a visit to the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, the official residence of the ruling family. Watch the changing of the guard ceremony that takes place every day at 11:55 am, and then take a guided tour of the palace to learn about its history and see the stunning state rooms.
Next, head to the Monaco Cathedral, where the late Princess Grace of Monaco is buried. This stunning cathedral features beautiful stained glass windows and a stunning white marble altar.
From the cathedral, take a short walk to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. This impressive museum features exhibits on marine life, conservation, and the history of oceanography. You can also take in stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea from the museum’s rooftop terrace.
After the museum, take a stroll through the narrow streets of Monaco’s old town, also known as “The Rock”. Stop for lunch at one of the many cafes or restaurants in the area, and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
In the afternoon, visit the famous Monte Carlo Casino, which is known for its luxurious interiors and high-stakes gambling. While the casino itself is closed to tourists during the day, you can still explore the surrounding gardens and take in the stunning architecture.
Finally, end your day with a visit to the Prince’s Car Collection, located just outside the city center. This impressive collection features rare and vintage cars, including models once owned by the royal family.
While it’s impossible to see everything Monaco has to offer in just one day, this itinerary will allow you to see the highlights of this stunning city. With its luxurious lifestyle, stunning architecture, and breathtaking views, Monaco is a destination that’s sure to leave a lasting impression.
