If you love a Norman Rockwell small town, you will love Fort Scott, Kansas. Take a little tour of this historic Midwestern town with me:

1️⃣ Start off at the town’s crown jewel: the Fort Scott National Historic Site, where you’ll explore an 1840s military fort with 20 historic structures and living history programs.

2️⃣ Visit the “Free to Serve” mural, which pays tribute to the 1st Kansas Colored Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Created by renowned artist Cbabi Bayoc, this mural honors the first Black soldiers to organize and fight in the Civil War.

3️⃣ One of the most unique and inspiring museums I’ve ever visited, the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes celebrates ordinary people who did extraordinary things.

4️⃣ Artificers Art Gallery & Studio is the kind of place you’d only expect to see in a big city. Think stunning art plus workshops led by world-class instructors.

5️⃣ To keep the nostalgia going, try lunch at Nu Grille, a 1940s-style eatery serving classic burgers, fries, milkshakes–and of course some good ol’ fashioned small town hospitality.

6️⃣ I never leave a destination without checking out its shops, and Fort Scott had plenty to explore in this department. Better in Bourbon, Sunshine, Laree + Co, Angie Dawns and Bibs and Dibs were just a few of my faves!

7️⃣ Take in a picnic (and some R&R) at Rock Creek Lake Waterfalls just outside of town.

8️⃣ For dinner, make a reservation at Crooner’s. It’s the perfect date night spot and it’s located in a stunning historic building.

9️⃣ Finally, check into the gorgeous Courtland Hotel, which dates back to 1906 and offers a glimpse into the city’s railroad era.

1️⃣ Behold Big Brutus: Kids (and kids at heart) will get a kick out of climbing inside the largest surviving electric shovel in the world!

2️⃣ For lunch, make your way to TOAST. The Toast Melt is to die for. And the interior design fibes are immaculate. ✨

3️⃣ Explore the charms of downtown Pittsburg. My personal faves: Miners + Monroe and Books & Burrow.

4️⃣ Take in Pittsburg’s many murals–and stop in at ArtForms Gallery.

5️⃣ Indulge your sweet tooth at Sugar Rush Sweet Treats at the historic Hotel Stillwell.

6️⃣ Take a tour of Pittsburg State University, home of the Gorillas.

7️⃣ Dine in at one of the iconic fried chicken establishments: Chicken Annie’s or Chicken Mary’s.

8️⃣ Enjoy a local show at the Memorial Auditorium, a gorgeous 1925 theater that was designed during the excavation of King Tutankhamun’s Tomb.
