Marjorie Allen Powell Chapel: A Spiritual Oasis
Art and architecture converge at Powell Gardens. And the crown jewel (IMHO) is the Marjorie Allen Powell Chapel, which stands as a testament to the connection between nature and the human spirit.
As a lover of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, this is what drew me to Powell Gardens in the first place. The chapel was designed by FLW’s most well-known disciple, E. Fay Jones, who also designed the famous Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
The 47-foot Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel, completed in 1996, stands as a tribute to philanthropist Marjorie Powell Allen, who tirelessly championed the well-being of children, opportunities for women, and the city of Kansas City at large.
Blending modern architecture and natural beauty, the chapel’s striking glass walls offer panoramic views of the surrounding gardens, creating a seamless transition between the interior and exterior. FLW would have been proud.
Blooms, Meadows & Gardens Galore
From the enchanting Heartland Harvest Garden to the serene David T. Beals Woodland & Stream Garden, Powell Gardens’ grounds are truly awe-inspiring. Eric and I loved seeing how much the gardens cater to kids and families, with something exciting to see around every corner.
Powell Gardens is worth adding to your Midwest Bucket List. We will definitely be back!
